Careers: Our People
A happy team makes for a more successful business
There's no such thing as a typical CarShop employee - our people come from all different backgrounds. We're proud of all our staff so, whether you're interested in a job in the office, in sales or in the workshop, we'd like you to see who you could be working alongside:
Chris Delaney
Regional Operations Manager
As an Operations Manager I have overall responsibility for the running of my site. This covers Sales, the Preparation Centre, Customer Services and Collections. I am also responsible for driving the site strategically to ensure that we get the best out of our people and processes resulting in us achieving our objectives. I enjoy managing a diverse variety of departments, as well as the challenge of ensuring the site achieves all the targets required.
Both inside and outside of work I must relish a challenge - last year I completed the 3 Peaks with 6 minutes to spare, despite having hardly any left knee at the time!
Michelle Munns
Retail Manager
My role includes a bit of everything, from managing four Sales Controllers and 25 Sales Executives to checking the cars meet our high retail standards and completing our weekly sales adverts. I have to liaise with Workshop, Collections and Sales Administration to try and ensure things run smoothly; due to the fast paced nature of the business communication is key.
I enjoy the job as it is extremely challenging having to deal with different situations and interesting customers on a day to day basis. Every day is different but at the end of each day I feel like I have accomplished something.
In my spare time I’m a keen swimmer and enjoy socialising with family and friends.
Lee Shaw
Senior Business Manager
My job involves managing the finance and insurance side of a customer’s car purchase. This begins with taking a deposit to secure the vehicle, then guiding the customer through CarShop’s FSA process. Assuming the customer qualifies, I’ll then offer advice on various insurance products, such as Vehicle Asset Protection and extended warranties, which enables the customer to protect their new investment. Also, as you might expect, I’ll take the customers through the different options on how best to fund their vehicle, whether it’s through their own bank or one of our tailor-made finance packages.
Once all this has been discussed and agreed upon, I’ll arrange a collection day and liaise with the Workshop and Collections to ensure the vehicle is prepared and ready to go on that day. The best part of my job is probably meeting lots of people from different walks of life (and, because our prices are so good, from all over the country). There’s also the satisfaction of putting together the right finance and insurance package for a customer, because we know if we get this bit right the chances are we’ll see that customer come back in the next few years.
Another great aspect of working for CarShop is the scope for progression within the business. I started my CarShop career as a Business Manager in Northampton and through growth of the company, and support and training, i have recently been promoted to Senior Business Manager at one of our other branches.
When the weather permits I like to get out on my motorbike and achieved the ’holy grail’ last year by ’getting my knee down’ when cornering on a track day. My only other claim to fame is my second cousin is Joe Longthorne (you may need Google), who used to do Royal Variety Performances and other similar TV shows. He does a great Shirley Bassey impression!
Rebecca Kingsford
Central Accounts Supervisor
I’m responsible for making sure we pay the correct amounts for all the vehicles we purchase, making sure all the suppliers get paid, and monitoring departmental budgets. I also handle the warranty product reconciliations, as well as supervising and maintaining the fixed assets.
Another part of my job involves overseeing payments and the cashbook (bank account) along with managing 4 other staff members. I really enjoy the working environment and the interaction with the people I work with.
Before CarShop, I worked for Stars and Stripes military newspaper in Germany and Washington DC for six years. Over eight years ago I met my husband playing an online game on the internet. We both still play World of Warcraft on a daily basis.
Asif Hussain
Sales Controller
The primary role of my job is to ensure my team of Sales Executives are motivated and productive. I attend to all the enquiries that come from the telephones or internet, print the daily stock lists and forms, set the hourly targets and hold morning meetings with the team. I also update the commission sheets, chase outstanding deliveries/car issues with the Business Managers and update the sales tracker and part-exchange log. No two days are the same. The thing I like most about CarShop is the fact that you are judged on your own merits, so no matter what your background you’re treated equally.
CarShop are also keen to promote within; I, for example, entered the business as a Sales Executive and within two years i have progressed through the ranks to the Sales Controller role. It just proves that if you work hard and show dedication you can progress quickly through the business.
Outside the office I enjoy watching football, and used to enjoy playing as well before I grew old. Boxing is another passion of mine, and I once played Danny Zuko in Grease!
Gavin Corby
Vehicle Technician
I am one of the first points of contact for cars when they come off the transporter. I work as part of a team who check over all the vehicles to ensure they meet our high standards. This involves checking the bodywork and the mechanics of every vehicle and assessing any work that needs to be done. My role also involves sorting out any work that needs doing, servicing, brakes and general repairs.
I am a motoring enthusiast out of work as well, and love everything about cars and motorsports. From the time I left school I always worked with cars and really enjoy it. I’m also looking forward to getting married this year.
