Alfa Romeo 147 Review
An Alfa Romeo 147 offers elegant Italian styling in a choice of three- or five-door versions. All models offer good performance, even the base 1.6, although the 2.0-litre is more responsive. For the best driving experience try one of the 1.9-litre turbodiesels – particularly the sporty 150bhp model.
The 147 offers much improved build quality over previous Alfas, with a classy interior finish to rival its German competitors. Two-way steering adjustment and height-adjustable seats mean it’s easy to find a comfortable driving position, but the control layout may take a little longer to get used to. Equipment levels are generous, with all models benefiting from air conditioning, electric windows and mirrors and a CD player as standard.
Practicality is where you really pay the price for the eye-catching styling. A used Alfa Romeo 147 will comfortably seat four adults, but the back seats aren't as accommodating as some hatches. Space in the boot isn't as abundant as in the class leaders either, although all models offer a split-fold rear bench for awkward loads.
