Alfa Romeo GT Review

Based on the 156 saloon, an Alfa Romeo GT has good looks, smooth engines, decent handling and just about enough space for four people and their luggage – making it a true grand tourer.

An Alfa Romeo GT offers a choice of 165bhp 2.0 litre, a 240bhp 3.2 V6 or a 150bhp 1.9 turbodiesel engines, all with a six speed manual transmission. The sporty handling is fast and composed, although the optional Q2 traction control provides useful extra front-end grip when powering down in tight corners.

Lower yourself into the cabin and all but the tallest drivers should be able to adjust the steering and seat enough to get comfortable, but the deep sides and narrow windows that make the car so appealing from the outside can make visibility for manoeuvring awkward. Tall backseat passengers will find their heads grazing the ceiling, although the boot offers generous space for long trips away.

All used Alfa Romeo GTs offer plenty of kit, with climate control, electric windows, alloy wheels and a CD player standard on all models. Added reassurance comes in the form of anti-lock brakes and a stability control system, plus front, side and window airbags in the event of an accident.
