Jaguar X-Type Review
Want a traditional British compact executive car that doesn’t cost the earth? A used Jaguar X-Type from The Car Shop Megastore could be just the ticket. Just choose from the smooth but thirsty four-wheel drive 2.5 or 3.0 V6 petrol models, or the refined front-wheel drive 2.0 or 2.2 litre turbodiesels.
A Jaguar X-Type uses a chassis based on the Ford Mondeo, so you can look forward to the same exemplary ride and handling whether you choose two- or four-wheel drive. The manual gearbox is smooth and precise, although the clutch can lack feel on petrol models.
Step inside and you’ll find plenty of space. The steering and driver’s seat offer lots of flexibility, although you may still find yourself too high up, and the controls are clear and easy to use. In the back there’s ample room for three adults, but the headroom is tighter than some rivals. The boot offers a wide opening but the shallow irregular shape limits its usefulness.
As you would expect for an executive car, in a Jaguar X-Type the standard equipment is comprehensive. This is especially true if you choose an S model, which includes an extra £3,210 of luxury equipment compared to the base trim.
