Rover 75 Review
A used Rover 75 from The Car Shop Megastore offers a traditionally British alternative to a German small executive car. But, despite the fact it was developed when BMW were in charge at Rover, it lacks the dynamism of its German cousins when you get behind the wheel. While it grips well and absorbs bumps and potholes like a luxury car, the steering lacks feel and there's too much roll in corners.
You can choose from a normally aspirated 1.8, a 1.8 turbo, a 2.0 V6 and a 174bhp 2.5 V6, but the pick of the engines is the BMW-sourced 2.0 turbodiesel. Smooth, powerful and offering an impressive 49mpg on average, it’s also extremely quiet and refined.
Step behind the wheel in a Rover 75 and it's like settling into a gentleman's club. The walnut dash and big, comfortable chairs hark back to another era, as do retro details like the sepia-tinted dials. The club could get a little crowded in the back though, where space is more limited. There's plenty of room for luggage however, although the rear seats don't fold.
If you decide to get a Rover 75 go for the Club, which offers air-conditioning and electric windows throughout, the Connoisseur which adds electrically adjustable leather seats or the SE which also gives you cruise control and a CD multi-changer.
