2016 has been a year of great success for CarShop! Having picked up a number of prestigious awards, being recognised as one of the fastest-growing retailers in the UK and announcing record profits, the UK’s best used car supermarket is on-track to have its best year to date. This success was a key theme communicated at the first ever CarShop Management Conference (MC16), held last week at luxury Oxfordshire venue, Heythrop Park.
Hailed as the launch of Mission World Class - CarShop’s strategy to lead the evolution of the automotive marketplace, the conference immersed CarShop and select partner delegates on an epic journey around the globe. By recognising the highlights of 2016, applauding CarShop heroes and using interactive workshops facilitated by Autotrader, Cox Automotive and Lloyds, MC16 laid the foundations on which to further build on the success of 2016 and futureproof CarShop.
After departing the UK delegates travelled to ancient Greece, home of the Olympics, bearing witness to an impressive display of theatre, communicating the strategy for 2017. Embracing transparency by including key strategic partners, the Vision was introduced as a collaborative effort which required engagement of all colleagues and key partners, culminating in a motivational talk from sporting legend, Kirss Akabusi.
The Brazilian rainforest and Austria were other destinations explored throughout the conference, with the evening taking shape in the form of a Las Vegas themed spectacle. In contrast to the strategic direction of the daytime, the evening shifted the focus towards the CarShop Cares charity programme, aiming to raise money for the CarShop Cares National Charity - Global’s Make Some Noise. Through the sale of CarShop Cares calendars, solely featuring colleagues of CarShop, a £4000 holiday prize-raffle and an auction, MC16 managed to fundraise over £7400 for the charity – a nice end of 2016’s fundraising efforts.
Jonathan Dunkley, CEO of CarShop, commented:
“MC16 was a huge deal for us! Not only was it the first time we invited management from across the business together, it was also the first time we invited a number of partners to share our vision. 2016 really has been a phenomenal year, but with so much socio-economic and technological change on the horizon, simply celebrating the success is not enough. By heavily investing in our people, and encouraging innovation from within, we believe we’ll be able to continually build on our success challenging the perceptions of used car retailing by providing a world-class solution and totally disrupting the marketplace. Feedback from the event has been extremely encouraging and we’re delighted all the hard work has paid off.
“On a personal note, I’m thrilled that we managed to raise nearly £7500 for Global’s Make Some Noise. Launching the CarShop Cares programme was a key achievement in 2016 and, judging on the early success, we’re confident we can reach our £100,000 target by the end of 2017.”
The event had a number of key partners including: Autotrader, Cox Automotive, Black Horse, Heart, Euro Car Parts, Dentsu Aegis, CAP HPI, GardX, RAC, Car Care Plan, Autoloadit and Iomart.
