Diesel Car has named the new Nissan Qashqai 'Car of the Year'.
The new Nissan Qashqai has been named 'Car of the Year 2014' by Diesel Car following its January release.
Continuing its run of success, the model was praised at the awards ceremony and picked up 'Best Crossover' while it was at it, ending the Range Rover Evoque's two-year winning streak.
Ian Robertson, editor and publisher of Diesel Car, said: "As well as being the creator of the sector with the Qashqai, Nissan also romps away in the sales charts with the UK’s number one best-selling crossover in its class.
"And it’s easy to see why, when you examine the no-compromise class-leading approach to its design, and the fact it is built here in the UK."
The new Qashqai comes with a choice of two direct injection diesel engines: the 1.5 dCi 110PS (81kW) and the 1.6 dCi 130PS (96kW). Those opting for the former can benefit from the low emissions value of 99g/km.
Jim Wright, Nissan GB managing director, said that the firm was "thrilled" that the car picked up the awards from Diesel Car - a "highly regarded and influential publication".
He claimed that the result reinforces the fact that the latest Qashqai is a landmark moment for the crossover. Mr Wright explained that the first of the model was a trailblazer and created the crossover segment, but the latest installment has redefined the sector and raised the bar for other brands.
The Qashqai is particularly strong when it comes to safety. It offers drivers 3x3-point rear seatbelts with ELR, 3x rear headrests, ABS, EBD and brake assist.
Driver, passenger, side and curtain airbags also come as standard, while ESP, front seatbelt height adjustment, load limiter and pretensioner are also available.
Hill start assist will be invaluable, especially when heading out to the countryside.
Other safety features include ISOFIX child seat anchorage points in the rear, Nissan chassis control with active engine break, active trace control and active ride control, and puncture repair kit.
