Used car buying to change across the UK as two leading car supermarkets join forces

CarShop, the UK’s leading used car supermarket group, will be adding the four The Car People stores to its portfolio and will operate under CarShop from Wednesday 19thJune 2019.

CarShop already has stores in Cardiff, Doncaster, Northampton, Norwich and Swindon. From June, the combination of the two award-winning car supermarkets takes the total number of stores under the CarShop brand to nine - The Car People’s store additions being Manchester, Wakefield, Sheffield and Warrington.

All of The Car People’s stores will be rebranded to CarShop, adopting a refreshed CarShop brand identity. Customers across all nine stores will have access to service centres at every location and an unrivalled choice of used cars, meaning they can choose from over 9,000 vehicles, which can easily be moved between any of the nine store locations through their click and collect process. Customers will also have access to CarShop’s multi-award winning website which features a 60 second car finance eligibility checker and a tool that can enable customers to guarantee a part-exchange valuation before coming in to store.

Bringing the two businesses together has enabled them to collaborate in order to benefit from each other’s strengths, to ensure their customer offering really is the very best in class. All nine CarShop stores will continue to offer a seamless omni-channel experience, knowledgeable colleagues, a price-match promise, a 3-month/3,000-mile guarantee, a 7-day exchange policy and a 114-point safety check on every car. CarShop boasts a 5-star ‘Excellent’ rating from customers on review site Trustpilot and is AutoTrader’s Retailer of the Year.

The change has created 32 new roles across its nine locations, benefitting local economies and ensuring customers can be served by an even broader range of experts.

Jonathan Dunkley, CarShop’s CEO, said: “We’re delighted to announce that The Car People will be rebranding to CarShop, in what we think will be a real-step change for the used car industry. We’re especially pleased that The Car People stores will be adopting and showcasing our refreshed brand identity, which has recently been implemented within our newly-refurbished Swindon store.

“We’ve already learned an enormous amount throughout the process of becoming one team, and by expanding our reach to nine industry-leading showrooms and more than 9,000 cars, we’ll be able to provide car buyers with more choice and convenience than has ever been possible before.

“It was important that as we operate in an ever evolving and dynamic space within the automotive marketplace, that we were able to leverage the benefits of scale that operating under one brand will bring. We are on an exciting journey to lead the evolution of our marketplace as we continue to build a nationally recognised brand that offers an unrivalled colleague and customer experience.

“We’re fully focused on offering a convenient, friendly and connected car-buying experience that leverages both the power of digital and our biggest asset, our people. We are committed to growing our business and building careers for our colleagues, as such, we’re opening two more CarShop stores very soon, starting with a purpose built flagship location that will open in Bristol in October this year.”
