Following on from a bumper year in terms of profit, award-winning car supermarket – CarShop – is heightening its focus on colleague engagement, as part of a reinvigorated People Strategy.
We’ve made no secret that developing and engaging colleagues is one of our main business objectives and, over the last twelve months, tangible evidence embodying our strategy has proved exactly that. The recent accreditation of the Investors In People Silver Standard, in-house focus groups, ongoing colleague engagement review surveys and industry benchmarking are all examples reflecting our focus on its colleagues.
This week we announced the launch of our new ‘Engage’ rewards and benefits programme; a £60,000 investment which has been carefully tailored to benefit the wellbeing of every colleague in the business, regardless of job role or level.
Underpinned by technological platforms, provided by leaders in our respective industries, the ‘Engage’ programme is said to be “the most comprehensive programme in the automotive industry”, according to CarShop’s Operations Director, Kirk O’Callaghan.
CEO, Jonathan Dunkley, issued the following statement in support of the programme:
“Since taking over the reins in 2012, focusing more on our colleagues has been a personal mission of mine; after all, they are the heart of the business and our most important asset. And if we don’t have it right for our internal customers, we’re not going to be able to get it right for our external customers, hence the investment.
“It started off with a deep-dive into understanding how our colleagues felt about the business and, thankfully, the overwhelming response was passionate and positive, but several areas of focus become apparent; health and wellbeing alongside recognition were key areas which our colleagues felt improvements could be made.
“I’m really pleased to say that our People Team did a tremendous job in addressing this, and have produced an all-encompassing programme which sets us apart from the rest of the industry.”
Tackling health and wellbeing, the programme focuses heavily on nurturing both mental and physical states, offering counselling and support alongside discounted gym membership and private healthcare options. And in terms of recognition, Engage actually gives colleagues the power to recognise our peers and even our managers. The top-down notion of recognition literally has been turned on its head, empowering people of every level to celebrate great work, and ‘Best CarShop in Town’ behaviours.
With further investment into the People Team operation planned for 2016, we are committed to the ongoing development and engagement of CarShop colleagues.
